Andrew Spangler
Andrew Spangler, founding partner of no|inc is a teacher, student and explorer of design in the digital age.
He has been involved in interactive design since its infancy. In 1995, he helped establish Function New Media, a web design company responsible for forming dynamic portal sites for the colleges of Baltimore.
Interested in working for a larger agency he joined Siquis Ltd., where he created websites and multimedia for Jockey Sports Wear, Blue Cross Blue Shield and the National Organization for Women.
Excited by the convergence of television and interactive media, he took on the role of Designer/ Animator at the broadcast design company Big Shot productions. There he created motion graphics for clients such as the Discovery Channel, The National Aquarium of Baltimore, and The Learning Channel as well as multimedia projects for ABC’s Monday Night Football.
During his freelance career he consulted with various design firms, helping establish their online strategies. He was involved with projects for Arthur Anderson, Swim Design and the NBC’s long running police drama, Homicide.
In August of 1998, he joined the interactive agency Gr8, where he served as lead designer, helping to establish their interactive production process and overseeing the work and education of junior designers. Andrew’s work can be seen in projects for Conservation International, MTV, The Nature Conservancy, British Telecom Worldwide, Polk Audio, Smithsonian, and The Library of Congress.
Since founding no|inc in 2000, Andrew has led creative teams on projects for Eisner Communications, Mrs. Paul’s, Pacific University, Santa Clara University, Sarah Lawrence College, and the Smithsonian Institution.
Andrew’s interactive design work has been recognized with over 40 awards, including the Summit Creative Awards, International Web Page Awards, the Omni Intermedia Awards, the MC Icon Awards, the Baltimore and Washington ADDY Awards and the Maryland ITVA Awards. Numerous publications have showcased his projects including Vogue magazine, Shift (Japan), and Elements of Web Design 2nd edition published by Peachpit Press.
