Bringing Life to the Web

Mark Maloney

Mark Maloney, founding partner of no|inc, brings an appropriately non-traditional background to an appropriately non-traditional medium.

An early adopter, Maloney began communicating using the internet in 1993 while on the road toward a career in biomedical research...and to chase down bootlegs of his favorite college band. He didn’t begin his interactive career until 1995, when he led interface design and application development efforts for the PEDS System, an electronic medical records system, at the University of Maryland Medical System. He merged this consultancy with a successful freelance web development venture and continued work through his tenure as a doctoral candidate in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. As this consultancy grew, Mark realized that new media provided a more tangible and creative outlet to his experimental tendencies (it was alot more fun too) and left his doctoral program in late 1998.

As an education in the dynamics of the interactive agency, Mark joined Gr8 as a designer in early January of 1999 and quickly became an core member of the new media design group. He designed and developed interactive projects for a wide range of clients, including Sylvan Learning Systems, U.S. Foodservice, Prime Retail, Claritas, Panoramic Digital, Circuit City, and MTV.

Maloney co-founded no|inc, a leading design and technology partnership in 2000 and has been instrumental in the company’s growth. In 2001, he developed an exclusive interactive partnership between no|inc and Berlin Cameron Red Cell, member of WPP Group. With no|inc, he has developed interactive strategy as well as provided creative and art direction to a broad range of national and international clients, including Boston Properties, The Coca-Cola Company, MTV, Network for Good, New York Life, Peabody Institute, Pfizer, The Rouse Company, Samsung, Silk Soy Milk, and Smithsonian Institution.

Mark’s work has been recognized by the Summit Creative Awards, London International Advertising Awards, the New York Multimedia Festival, the Omni Intermedia Awards, the MC Icon Awards, Baltimore and Washington ADDY Awards, among others. In 2005, he was named to the Baltimore Business Journal's "Top 40 Under 40".

He holds an M.S. from the University of Maryland Baltimore and a B.S. from Roanoke College.
