General Manager and User Experience Strategy
James co-founded No.inc in 2000 as a consulting firm focused on providing interactive strategy and solutions for a diverse set of clients including AOL, Advertising.com, T he Coca-Cola Company, Johns Hopkins University, Laureate Education, The Smithsonian Institution, and Pearson Learning.
Since the company’s inception, James has led the efforts to grow No.inc into a full-service interactive firm. James has been responsible for defining the company’s customer engagement process, project management practices, financial strategy, and business operations systems.
With his guidance, James’s team has created a wide range of award-winning solutions. Employing a user-centric approach, the team finds solutions through examining and breaking down human processes and culture and integrating them with technology. In 2007, James led the user experience strategy and design efforts to bring television online with TidalTV.com. In 2006, James worked with AOL’s Advertising.com to define and standardize user experience design patterns for a suite of consumer products. In 2003, James led the user experience and product strategies for the creation of an online learning management system for Johns Hopkins University.
James received his BFA from The Maryland Institute College of Art. In his spare time he teaches interactive design at Johns Hopkins University and races sailboats in the Chesapeake Bay.
Chief Technology Officer
Alex is responsible for technology innovation and implementation at No.inc. His more than 20 years of experience in designing and developing telecommunications and electronics software have served him well in overseeing our strategic technology decisions, scalable system architecture design, best practices, and product roadmaps. Curious and innovative, Alex is also instrumental in developing new products and technologies.
Alex has worked for a wide range of clients including many notable entities such as 3Com, AOL, Advertising.com, British Telecom, CACI, Discovery, Coca-Cola, Georgetown University, the Internal Revenue Service, Marriott Corporation, MTV, Palm, Samsung, Sylvan Learning Systems, Smithsonian Institution, and Verizon. Additionally, Alex has served as adjunct faculty for the George Washington University in areas of computer science and management of information systems.
Although now operating primarily as a specialist in the Web 2.0 Application space, Alex and his team have successfully completed a wide variety of projects ranging from web-based rich Internet applications to mobile embedded systems development. Examples of this past work include eCommerce for Advertising.com, a custom online learning management system for Johns Hopkins University, Arabic and Farsi versions of the Palm OS, multiple platform emulation software for the Microsoft XBOX, a multi-protocol 3D-avatar enabled instant messaging platform for Coca-Cola, and a MMORPG based non-profit entity spawned under the University of Oulu in Finland.
Chief Creative Officer
As Chief Creative Officer of No.inc, Andrew oversees the shared creative vision between No.inc and its clients. Andrew has more than 14 years of experience in digital communications, post production, animation, social media, information architecture, and online games.
Andrew was the creative lead on projects for MTV, The Nature Conservancy, Discovery, The Wall Street Journal, British Telecom, and the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Most recently, he directed the creative process for a collection of online demos designed for Verizon Communications. The demos were integral to Verizon’s rollout of a new Enterprise Center Dashboard which services millions of users and required translation into nine different languages including Chinese and Japanese.
Andrew brings seasoned expertise in keys areas such as rich media and interaction design. His work has been showcased in publications such as Vogue magazine, Shift (Japan), and Elements of Web Design by Peach Pit Press.
Chief Collaboration Officer
Bill is our lead in brand collaboration, sharing ideas and coordinating efforts across a creative network controlled from within No.inc. Bill directs an integrated branding team of best-of-breed specialists with talents that span a wide variety of disciplines. The scope of this team’s experience enables us to offer skills tailored to meet the demands of individual projects or long-term, multi-media strategic campaigns.
Bill began his career as a graphic designer in the early 1980s in Philadelphia. He then moved to Baltimore to become a creative director at The Barton Gillet Company, a marketing communications firm specializing in higher education and corporate communications. In the mid 1990s Bill became co-owner of David Ashton & Associates, a Baltimore-based graphic design firm. In response to expanding client needs, Bill began outsourcing creative services while leveraging the resources of a growing network of individual design talent.
Bill founded Bill Shinn & Associates in 2002 as the natural outgrowth of this emerging business model for design and communications services. He joined No.inc in 2009.
